Finding the Right Heavy Bag
Whether you're training for competition or setting up a home gym, choosing the right heavy bag comes down to a few key factors: weight, fill type, and your training style. Picking the right one makes a big difference in how you train.
If you're new to bag work, starting lighter is usually easier. A 70–100 lb bag gives you more freedom to move and helps you practice combinations without too much resistance. As you build power and improve your technique, you may move to a heavier bag. The right weight for you depends on your body size, experience level, and training goals, there's no single range that works best for everyone, so it's worth thinking through your own needs (or asking us) before you buy.
Unfilled bags give you full control over the final weight and feel. Fill them using a manufacturer-approved method, check your specific bag's instructions for recommended fill materials and ratios, since using the wrong fill can affect bag performance and durability. Unfilled bags are also lighter and less expensive to ship, which makes them a good option for home gyms or smaller spaces.
Filled bags arrive ready for training, with no fill setup required. This is why many gyms prefer them - they save time on setup.
(Note: confirming whether mounting hardware like chain, swivel, ceiling mount, etc. is included with filled bags; "ready to hang" will be clarified once confirmed.)
For fighters and gym owners who want something unique, custom punching bags are also available. Choose your gym logo, colors, or a specific design to turn a simple bag into something that represents your space. The process includes finalizing size, material, and design before production begins.
As a Houston-based punching bag store, we offer both ready-to-ship heavy bags and custom-made options. Everything can be ordered online with fast shipping across the US, and local pickup is available if you're in Houston.

Frequently Asked Questions
What's the difference between a filled and unfilled heavy bag?
A filled bag arrives ready for use. An unfilled bag comes empty and you fill it yourself using a manufacturer-approved method, which gives you control over the final weight and feel. Unfilled bags also cost less to ship since they're lighter.
How heavy should my bag be?
It depends on your size, experience level, and training goals. Beginners and those focused on speed or movement often prefer a lighter bag, generally under 100 lbs, while more experienced fighters may prefer a heavier bag for a more stable, less "swingy" feel. If you're unsure, we're happy to help you figure out what fits your training style.
Can you make a custom punching bag?
Yes. You can choose your own logo, colors, or design. Size and artwork are finalized before production starts.
Do you ship outside Houston?
Yes, shipping is available across the US. If you're in Houston, you can also pick up your order locally.
How long does a custom order take?
It depends on the size and design details. Share your requirements with us and we'll give you a clear timeline before you place your order.
What size bag is best for a home gym?
This depends on your space and training goals rather than one fixed answer. Make sure you have enough ceiling height and a strong, secure mount before choosing a heavier bag — contact us if you'd like help sizing a bag for your setup.
